06.05.15 – 07.05.15

On Wednesday morning we left the mountain village of Mestia to travel to Batumi, grateful that any danger from Svenati bandits mentioned in our guidebook was finished around 2003 (mental note to always buy an up-to-date guide book!)

Imagine a day which starts with a morning spent in the Swiss Alps, travels through the Netherlands in the afternoon, and ends in Madiera in the evening, and you will have a fair picture of our journey.

Brian and I were married in the Konka wedding house in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, on Saturday 2nd May, and I am now Mrs Arthur. Irakli was our best man, and his colleague Mia was my bridesmaid.  Also in attendance were Ian, who gifted Brian a traditional Georgian sword, and his wife Tiko.

27.04.15-01.04.15

We have travelled all the way to Tbilisi, Georgia for our wedding.  A few years ago, when Brian reconnected with his birth mother after over 50 years, he found out that he was a quarter Georgian.  After WW1, his grandfather fought with other British troops alongside the White Russians, against the Bolsheviks.  He met and married Olga Gritshook in 1919, firstly in Georgia, then during the journey home, and a third time back in Hartlepool.  During a drunken moment, we decided it would be a great idea to do try to repeat the story and have three weddings….so here we are!  Wedding 1 is the official ceremony, and takes place on 02.05.15 at noon, after a very stressful few weeks trying to get all the documentation in place.
